Fresh Faces: Yeojin Bae

We sat down for a chat with the Aussie designer before her big unveil

What was the inspiration behind this collection?
It’s a lot of fun. It’s all about pieces you’re going to wear out and have a really good time in—to cocktail parties, holidays, events. I really wanted the collection to be confident, sexy and sophisticated. I do quite a lot of dresses because they’re what I personally love but I mix it with tailoring and I love that combination.

Does anyone get to peek at you work while you’re designing?
It’s a very, very personal process. I try on a lot of the clothes myself and I’ll argue with myself and push myself but in the early stages I prefer not to have a lot of other opinions.

I like the office to be quiet. I like to be on my own so I tend to do a lot of my designing after hours or on the weekends when I’m by myself. I love to have music playing—a lot of French singers because my husband works with French music. Lately I’ve been listening to a lot of Emilie Simon.

Any other Spring 2010 collections you’re looking forward to seeing?
Marc Jacobs, Balenciaga and I’m excited about London Fashion Week in general this year.

Three things you can’t live without?
Yoga, my husband, chocolate.
