Fresh Faces: Kristin Hassan

Let’s talk inspiration.
It’s my new namesake label and it really sums up who I am as a designer. It’s really girly, really fun, lots of colors and covered in ruffles. The collection is candy and cupcake inspired with a little touch of rock and roll. It’s a nice, girly mix of things.

My inspiration is pretty much constantly the same—it’s always about the American girl. I grew up in the Chicago music scene; being around musicians has played a big part in my designing. And I’m such a girly-girl. I love dressing up.

What did you listen to while working on this collection?
I listened to a bunch of girly pop rock like Kelly Clarkson and KSM. Just fun, energetic stuff.

Favorite spot in Chicago?
It’s a tie between the House of Blues and the Metro. They both have such a cool vibe; they always feel like home.

What was the last show you went to?
My husband’s band—they’re called The Insecurity.

Three things you can’t live without?
Music, high heels and lip gloss.
